During the concerts, the Maastricht University Orchestra celebrated a special moment: the 20th anniversary of our conductor Raymond Spons. We reflected on this milestone and looked back with gratitude on two decades of successful collaboration.

The premiere of Regalo Festivo, a sparkling overture composed by Christiaan Janssen, was performed especially for this occasion. The piece was written in honor of Raymond’s anniversary and was received with great enthusiasm by the audience.

In addition, we can enjoy the impressive voice of soloist Vincent Kusters, with whom the orchestra enjoyed working together during this concert.

The programme was as follows:

• Christiaan Janssen – Regalo Festivo Overture (commissioned by the University Orchestra Maastricht)
• Gustav Mahler – Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen together with soloist Vincent Kusters (bariton)
• Johannes Brahms – Symphony No. 2 in D major, op. 73
