Romantic Revolution

On Monday 5 September 2022, we had our first rehearsal of the year! We immediately started working on our Romantic Revolution project. We have been looking forward to this project for quite some time. Although we luckily were able to play our Eastern Fairytale concerts in June 2022, after 2,5 years without any concerts, it has already been 3 years since we last got to perform our traditional ‘classical’ concerts. But now we are back: enthusiastic, passionate and at full strength!

Did you know that the orchestra already started rehearsing Beethoven’s second symphony in September 2021? We planned to perform it during our winter concerts in January 2022, but plans were changed as we had to cancel our rehearsals and concerts. Because the orchestra enjoyed playing Beethoven’s second symphony so much last year, we decided to once again add it to our programme.

During these concerts we played music from three composers: Dvořák, Glinka and Beethoven. At first glance they perhaps do not seem to have that much in common, however there is a connection: all three composers were revolutionaries of their time and this can definitely be heard throughout the pieces.

We are back: enthusiastic, passionate and at full strength!

On Friday 25 November we had our first concert at 20:00 in the Sint Annakerk in Maastricht. Our second concert took place on Sunday 27 November at 14:30 in the Greune Zaol, also in Maastricht. The programme was as follows:

  • Antonín Dvořák – Česká suita D dur (Czech Suite), Op. 39 (1879)
    • Preludio (Pastorale): Allegro moderato
    • Polka: Allegretto grazioso
